Professor Li Chen (Department of Historical & Cultural Studies (UTSC) joins commentators Maura Dykstra (California Institute of Technology) and Matthew Somer (Stanford University) to reexamine the legal and juridical professions and professionals in the Late Imperial China period (1610-1910).

The discussion is part of the Rethinking Cultural Constructions of Law in East Asia series, in which 30 internationally renowned scholars join together to discuss recent developments and new directions of research in the related fields of East Asian legal cultures and histories. The speaker series runs from August 2020 to June 2021.
