Backpack to Briefcase (b2B)

Dear History Student,

Are you wondering what you’ll do after you graduate? The Department of History invites you to participate in the Backpack to Briefcase (b2B) program so you can meet alumni from your department, build your professional network and practice your networking skills. Upcoming events are listed below.

b2B Student/Alumni Networking Events

Meet successful Arts & Science alumni at our Mentorship Meals, Speed Networking Nights, Career Panel Discussions and Industry Nights. Build your network, hear how alumni made their transitions through and out of university, and speak to them about your own path. Don’t forget to bring your questions (and your appetite!).

Speed Networking

Speed Networking is a fun (and fast!) way to connect with U of T students and new graduates in your field. Alumni discuss their U of T education, the value of their degree and their pursuit of successful careers. Each speed networking round lasts five to 10 minutes. Light refreshments are served afterward, offering an opportunity for alumni to mingle with students in a less-structured setting.

Please note, Speed Networking is paused for 2020. Please check this page in 2021 for updates and event details.

Industry Nights

Want to know how to plan your path forward and connect your current studies with a job after graduation? Industry nights allow you to mix and mingle with alumni for a very special b2B.

These large-scale networking receptions bring together alumni with students interested in pursuing a career in their fields. Industry Nights are a wonderful opportunity for students to speak with you — successful Arts & Science alumni — about your career path. Your insights will help them understand how their Faculty of Arts & Science degree is relevant to many careers in these broad areas.

Please note, Industry Nights are paused for 2020. Please check this page in 2021 for updates and event details.

Mentorship Meals

These intimate gatherings bring together alumni, faculty and students from the same discipline in a supportive, community atmosphere. Enjoy a delicious meal while discussing future career paths and the infinite possibilities an Arts & Science degree can open for students. Don’t forget to bring your expertise — and your appetites.

Please note, Mentorship Meals are paused for 2020. Please check this page in 2021 for updates on event details.

Next Steps Conference

The Next Steps Conference is an inspiring and energizing — and this year, online! — event for Arts & Science students and recent graduates.

Part career exploration, part preparation for life after graduation, the conference provides a great way for students and new graduates to build their professional networks.

With a range of speakers, career exploration panels, personal and professional development seminars and networking opportunities, Next Steps helps participants explore their options — including those they didn’t even know they had.

Check back here or at the Events Calendar for updates and registration!

p.s. Full participation in the b2B program can be included on your Co-Curricular Record (CCR).
