Description

While we celebrate Dalit History Month, we invite you to think about the interrelation between Dalits and history. Dalits, like other marginalized communities, are often considered as those lacking history. In North American context, we see racialized groups similarly struggling to reclaim their history. In this scenario, how does one historicize the life narratives of marginalized communities? What can listening to marginalized narrators of their own lives tell us about histories of struggle and futures of resistance? What are the parallels we see between resistance to the structures of race and caste?

Join us at a special event to reflect on these questions and commemorate Dalit History Month, presented by the Department of History, University of Toronto and the Forum for Anti-Caste Activism in Toronto (FACT).
