The talk will briefly survey the history of the Italian presence in Istria and Dalmatia, the tragic events during and immediately following WW2 that led to the ethnic violence against the Italian population and its mass exodus from these territories, and will finish with a presentation of the book "Forgotten Italians: Julian-Dalmatian Writers and Artists in Canada" (UoT Press, 2019).

Konrad Eisenbichler (FRSC, Comm. OMRI) teaches in the Department of Italian Studies at the University of Toronto. A leading figure in the Julian-Dalmatian diasporic community in Canada, where he has served it in various capacities over the decades, including as editor of "El Boletin" and as president of the Julian-Dalmatian Federation of Canada. He has published both on its history and on its writers in Canada.
