The Natalie Zemon Davis Memorial Essay Prize was established to honour an extraordinary woman with an remarkable legacy as a scholar, colleague, teacher, mentor, and political activist. Natalie’s historical insight, her gift for navigating archives, her talent for drawing historical meaning from fragmentary sources and archival silences, and the profound originality of her work reshaped the thinking of generations of scholars across the humanities and social sciences.

This essay prize will honor a third- or fourth-year History undergraduate student for moving Natalie’s legacy forward with their own burgeoning scholarly talent.
