Queering Family Photography Opening Reception

Please join us in celebrating an exhibition, opening Saturday, that is a featured exhibition at at this year’s Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival.
The exhibition is entitled Queering Family Photography and has been co-curated by Associate Professor Elspeth Brown and Thu Phu (Western U). The show explores how family photographs reflect, shape, and expand queer forms of affective connection and kinship. The exhibition draws on Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives (CLGA) collections, as well as those of The Family Camera Network and the Two-Spirited Collection from the University of Winnipeg.

Dates: April 21 to Saturday May 26, 2018
Opening Reception: Saturday April 28th, 2-5 pm.
In addition to the opening, there will be a roundtable on Thursday April 26th, 5-7 pm: renowned artist Sunil Gupta (UK), acclaimed filmmaker Richard Fung (Canada) and prominent Two-Spirited activist Albert McLeod will be in conversation with co-curators Elspeth Brown and Thy Phu for a conversation on the occasion of Queering Family Photography and Friends and Lovers: Coming Out in Montreal in the 1970s, Sunil Gupta’s show in the same space. The roundtable will be at the University of Toronto’s Hart House, in the east Music Room (2nd floor).
All events are free and open to the public.
