Dr. Helen MacMurchy (1862-1953): A Life in Eugenics
Biography
Elizabeth received her PhD in 2018 from the Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology at the University of Toronto. Formerly a practising lawyer, her dissertation focussed on the history of eugenics and law in Ontario from 1910 to 1938. Her postdoctoral research for which she has been awarded a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship is on Dr. Helen MacMurchy an early female physician in Toronto who played significant roles in the development of public health in Canada as well as in promoting eugenics.
