Biography

Zariyah Grant is a doctoral candidate in the Department of History and the collaborative Specialization at the Women and Gender Studies Institute. Her research examines gender, slavery, and racial capitalism in the Atlantic World, with a particular focus on twentieth-century U.S. history and the Black radical tradition across the African diaspora. Her dissertation explores the production and lived experience of Black urban deviance in post–World War II New York City, excavating the marginalized communities and complex practices that constituted Black deviance. Zariyah is also a recipient of the 2024–2025 Fulbright Canada Student Award and the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship.
