Welcome to the Department of History at the University of Toronto St. George (downtown Toronto) campus.
We are one of the largest history departments in North America, and are consistently among the top-ranked history departments in the world.
Together, our faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students and undergraduate students work to broaden our knowledge of the past. Research grants support faculty as they investigate the sensory map of Renaissance Florence, the role of treaties with aboriginal populations in creating Canada or the ways that Romanov rulers lived in one of their grand palaces. Students benefit from working with faculty who are actively engaged both in research and in bringing their findings into the classroom.
The University of Toronto also offers undergraduate instruction in history at its Mississauga and Scarborough campuses:
- Department of Historical Studies (Mississauga)
- Department of Historical and Cultural Studies (Scarborough)
