A
Methodological Approach
I used a vast array of resources to attempt
a material culture analysis of the Hillary House. These resources
include:
- the house itself;
- oral histories about the house recounted by members of the Hillary
family and the Curator;
- oral histories about doctors' houses generally;
- architectural floor plans from the Horwood Architectural Collection
(Ontario Archives), the Hillary House and the Hutchinson House;
- archival material from the Hillary family
- 19th century copies of the Aurora newspaper, The Era Banner;
- 19th century property maps for Yonge Street in Aurora; and
- many secondary sources listed under references on this web site.
