Field: Pre-Confederation gender and comparative colonial history

Professor Noel's interests include pre-Confederation gender and comparative colonial history. Her Canada Dry: Temperance Crusades Before Confederation won the Canadian Historical Association's 1996 Macdonald Prize. Her Women of An Ancien Regime Colony is forthcoming. A new research project compares French, Dutch and Mohawk cultures in colonial New York. Noel's publications include the much-reprinted New France: Les Femmes Favorisées, the Canadian Historical Association Booklet Women in New France, and some thirty articles in books, encyclopedias and journals.  Professor Noel also edited Race and Gender in the Northern Colonies.  In addition to her graduate and undergraduate teaching, Professor Noel is past  coordinator of Gender Studies at UTM and current coordinator of the Historical Internship Program.
