Field: Modern Europe, Germany, cultural and intellectual history
Professor Eksteins' principal research interest is modern European cultural history. His most recent book is Diaghilev Was Here (2005) which he co-authored. Other works include Walking Since Daybreak: A Story of Eastern Europe, World War II, and the Heart of Our Century (1999) which was accorded the Pearson Writers’ Trust Prize. An earlier book, Rites of Spring: The Great War and the Birth of the Modern Age (1989), won the Wallace K. Ferguson Prize of the Canadian Historical Association and the Trillium Award of the Province of Ontario and has been translated into seven languages.
